Wendy Greuel (Los Angeles City Controller)

"I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million...With our local unemployment rate over 12% we need to do a better cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work."

- $111 million is the amount the city of Los Angeles has received in the past year-and-a-half from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; better known as the Stimulus Bill.

I love math, and believe it tells interesting stories: $111,000,000/55 jobs "created or retained" = $2,018,181.82/job "created or retained."

An interesting story indeed, with many subplots to be examined:
1. I want one of those Obama Jobs! Heaven knows I'm not costing my employer $2 'mill.'
2. These Liberal fools need to stop with the "created or retained" BS...That said, I'm betting most of the jobs were "retained" not "created."
3. $111,000,000/$50,000 jobs = 2,018 jobs...Maybe it's just me, but this should have been very possible in a city with an unemployment rate over 12%.
4. Obviously, Los Angeles doesn't have a bunch of $2 million employees running around...So, the question should be asked: Where did the $111,000,000 really go? Any chance of the answer being 'massive fraud, waste and abuse? Naaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Oh well, what did we expect when the Democrats passed the $800 billion boondoggle? Best part is our kids and grand kids will have the pleasure of paying for such a heist.

If you actually read the entire article, you might notice that on 13% on the stimulus money has been spent in LA and in total 936 jobs were created. So if you were to read the details and not just the headline you would notice that 658 million is available, 13% has been used to create 936 jobs, average is $9138 per job. Much less than paying for unemployment or food stamps for those folks who will spend that money back into the economy as opposed to some billionaire with an extra 100K to spend on a Swiss watch. The truth is in the details and Wendy Gruel is actually doing her job and looking for wasted funds or there would not have been a stupid headline like that in the first place.

That's the problem, Milton...Why has it taken so long to spend all 100% of the funds when there is such a massive unemployement rate?

And why is she trumpeting 55 jobs instead of the 936? Either way the money is there and she's only created/saved 936 jobs out of whatever the total of millions of dollars they have to play with.

That in its own is incompetence.

I employe people and would love to be given money to hire, instead of having to cut back and let people go...Heaven knows it wouldn't take me a year-plus to do so.

Maybe it's not fraud or abuse, but they sure are wasting time over there in LA....And if massive bureaucracy is the reason, it is all the more wasteful and all the more reason why government fails us.
